Injection molded magnet is composed of various types of resin, additive and magnetic powders. It can be made into many complex shapes with precise size, light weight and thin wall by injection molding technology. It also can be combined with different metallic accessories. The magnetic and physical properties of the product which depend on raw material are generally lower than Sintered NdFeB magnet. Those who are looking into injection molding magnets are trying to avoid gluing magnet as a secondary process and also keep magnets away from water, which can extend product’s life.

The resin includes Nylon 6, PA12, PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) etc. PA12 is better than PA6 because of low water absorption 1.5% and low impact of environment to its product size. In order to improve physical strength, corrosion resistance, maximum temperature and dimensional stability, researchers are keeping working hard to develop new polymer binder material.

Magnetic powders from NdFeB, SmCo to Ferrite are available for injection molding magnets. Mixture magnetic powder of NdFeB plus Ferrite has combined properties which called hybrid magnet.

1. Injection molding ferrite magnet: low price and magnetic property, mainly used on sensor and low requirement motor
2. Injection molding SmCo magnet: higher magnetic property than ferrite product, higher working temperature and better oxidation resistance than NdFeB product; mainly used on lever sensor in very hot and humid environment.
3. Injection molding NdFeB magnet: small size, high magnetic property, mainly used on brushless electric machine.

Multi-poles Magnetization Direction:

The production of injection molded magnet requires a dedicated press tool and magnetization fixture. So it’s suitable for mass production because of high tooling charge.
