Hard Ferrite Magnets (Ceramic Magnet)
Hard ferrite magnets (also called Ceramic magnets) are composed of iron oxide and strontium carbonate or barium carbonate. So there are strontium ferrite and barium ferrite magnets.
Ferrite is a kind of permanent magnet with high anti-oxidation properties. There is no special requirement for magnet protective plating. So you can easily identify ferrite magnets by their charcoal gray color. This color is the original color of magnet.
Hard ceramic magnets have a reasonable resistance to demagnetization and can operate at temperatures up to 180 ℃.
Like other permanent magnets, ferrite magnets are very hard and brittle too. It’s required to handle with care.
Ferrite magnets are weaker than Neodymium magnets and samarium cobalt magnets, but they also can offer strong magnetic force when their size or volume becomes relatively large. For example, block 6"x4"x1" ferrite magnet in the grade of Y30BH is the stock size that is usually used on magnetic separator. Compared with using super-strong neodymium magnet on separator, the cost of using ferrite magnet can be as low as possible.
Ceramic magnets usually appear in the forms of discs (for fridge magnets), rings (for loudspeaker), blocks (for magnetic separator), cylinders, and sometimes arcs for motors.
Due to low cost, ferrite magnets have a very wide range of applications, from motors, sensor, loudspeakers, separator to toys and crafts, and are still the most widely used permanent magnets today.
